Why Biological Dentistry? A Philosophy That Respects the Body

The short answer: Biological dentistry is dentistry that treats your mouth as part of your whole body — not as a separate mechanical system. It respects your physiology, works with your immune system rather than against it, chooses materials your body accepts instead of tolerates, and looks for the cause of a problem rather than just patching the symptom. It is not an alternative to good dentistry; it is good dentistry, practised with a wider view of what “the patient” actually means. A different starting question
Most dental problems get treated locally: here is the cavity, here is the filling; here is the infected tooth, here is the treatment. That is not wrong — but it is incomplete.

Every material placed in your mouth, every procedure performed, is something your immune system has to respond to. Conventional dentistry asks whether a material is tolerated. Choosing materials your body accepts — free of unnecessary toxins

For decades, dentistry has placed materials in the body with too little attention to what they release over time. The clearest example is amalgam — so-called “silver” fillings, which are roughly half mercury. Biological dentistry takes a metal-free, biocompatible approach: no mercury, and where possible no metal at all.
• Metal-free implants. Ceramic (zirconia) implants replace missing teeth without introducing metal into the jaw — white, bioinert and hypoallergenic.
• Safe amalgam removal. Old mercury fillings are removed under a strict protection protocol (the IAOMT SMART protocol) designed to minimise exposure during removal.
• Biocompatible restorations. Crowns, veneers and fillings chosen for how the body responds to them, not only for cost or convenience.
