Replacing Failed Veneers: From Leaky and Inflamed to Healthy and Natural
This case is a full smile reconstruction, replacing 20 old veneers that had reached the end of their life. The previous restorations were of poor quality and, more importantly, were no longer healthy: the margins where veneer met tooth had become leaky, trapping bacteria and causing ongoing gum inflammation. Aesthetically they were uneven and mismatched, with visible colour differences and an unnatural appearance.
This is a case that shows why veneers are about health, not only looks. Leaking margins do not just look bad, they keep the gums irritated and put the underlying teeth at risk. The first goal was to remove the failing restorations, address the inflammation and create a clean, well-sealed foundation.
The smile was then rebuilt with new, precisely fitted ceramic veneers, planned for even proportions, a natural shade and, above all, healthy margins that the gum can tolerate long term. The result is a balanced, natural smile sitting on healthy, calm gum tissue, restored not just to look better, but to be healthier and to last.
